Oh Jerusalem

Oh Jerusalem

This is one of my absolute favorite pictures of the Savior. It looks as if he is pondering about all his brothers and sisters. He is calm and reflective. I can't help but wonder if he is thinking about me and what I am going through. Jesus Christ lived a perfect example of charity. Every moment on earth he was 'amidst the afflicted'. He never spoke down to those who were in need or turned away the sick. It is easy to judge others who are suffering and even, at times, say that they brought it upon them self. But are we all not beggars? To have as great of charity as the Savior possessed, we must first learn how to love. Not only love those who are easy to love and kind, but more importantly, love those who need it the most, even if they don't deserve it. "Charity is the pure love of Christ."

'There Is A Green Hill Far Away' comes to my mind every time I see this delicate painting. I feel a spirit of reverence and gratitude for my Savior when I ponder on his suffering on the cross.

  1. 1. There is a green hill far away,
    Without a city wall,
Where the dear Lord was crucified,
Who died to save us all.
  2. 2. We may not know, we cannot tell,
What pains he had to bear,
But we believe it was for us
    He hung and suffered there.
  3. 3. There was no other good enough
To pay the price of sin.
He only could unlock the gate
Of heav'n and let us in.

4. Oh, dearly, dearly has he loved!
And we must love him too,
And trust in his redeeming blood,
And try his works to do.

Christ lives and loves you. If you have not come to personally know your Savior yet, ponder. Find a quiet place away from the distractions of our busy world, and study his teachings. Through the Spirit, you will feel his love and have a deeper appreciation for his infinite atonement.
